Do you doodle when you think no one is looking? I see you.....Doodles are awesome! Napkins, gutters on your lined paper, fancy white table-paper in Italian restaurants, bills (lol). These makeshift canvases are mini works of art and I encourage you to keep them from your trash bin. The small doodles you make can become crucial elements in your larger more in-depth works of art. Respecting the small marks you make will encourage depth in your art journal pages. You'll notice texture and symbolism become a part of your journal pages easier when doodling is encouraged in your daily habit.
In these photos I show you how I go from a random doodle to a gorgeous journal page. I enjoy late night doodling while watching my husband play riveting games of Hearthstone or while watching hilarious reruns of Ridiculousness. I'll usually post them on Instagram (@SimplyArtOC) to encourage myself to embrace my doodles. I find that sharing your doodles proudly the same way you would a completed art journal spread encourages creative confidence.
Below is a picture of my late night doodle (left) and my finished journal page (right).
